Prosthesis Options

Leisure Forms

A breast form that isn’t made of silicone is usually made from foam, fiberfill, polyester fiberfill, or beaded materials covered by cloth. Leisure forms are easily slipped inside a pocketed mastectomy bra and are lighter, cooler, and more comfortable than silicone breast forms.

Silicone Forms

Silicone breast forms are designed to look and feel like a breast. Silicone forms used to be made of solid silicone — so they were heavy and could be uncomfortable to wear in hot weather. Newer versions have pockets of air that make them lighter and more comfortable to wear. Still, even newer silicone breast forms come in varying weights so you can pick one that matches your other breast. When your breast form matches your breast’s size and weight, it helps prevent straining and pain in the back muscles.

Custom-Made Forms

Custom-made breast forms are made of silicone and can be specifically designed to match: the contour of your chest wall, regardless of bumps, ridges, or indentations the size, shape, and weight of your remaining breast to restore your symmetry You can also choose the skin tone as well as the shape and color of your nipple and areola. The silicone breast form has a tacky surface that helps it stay in place when you wear a bra. Many women say the custom-made silicone breast form fits the chest like a puzzle piece. A custom breast form is more likely to mimic the slope of a natural breast. It’s also easier to match the size, shape, and weight of the remaining breast with a custom-made breast form.

What To Expect At Your Fitting

About 6-8 weeks after breast surgery is the recommended time frame to get a fitting. However, should the patient have a more immediate need (i.e. Work, special occasion, vacation, etc.) they may be fitted as soon as 3-4 weeks post-surgery with a special post-op form.

Our fittings are performed with respect to privacy and to your individual needs.

We will first assess the condition at your surgery site to make sure there is no drainage or open wounds.

We will determine your proper bra size by taking measurements. Getting this measurement is crucial in providing a natural fit and how well your prosthesis is tolerated. We offer a wide selection of pretty and feminine bras that offer the support you need to keep your prosthesis in an ideal position.

Using the shape and drape of your current breast we will recommend a prosthesis that best fits those dimensions. We carry many shapes and sizes to offer you a prosthesis that is flattering to your body.

You may try a few options, and we will work with you to find something that you are happy and comfortable with. Communication is key in finding your perfect solution.

A yearly fitting is recommended as our bodies and breasts change due to hormones and weight fluctuations. These changes may result in needing a different prosthesis to maintain symmetry or comfort.

We provide detailed instructions and education on using and caring for your prosthesis. We will also inform you of the manufacturer’s warranties and specific care instructions.

We understand that when it comes to your health you need professionals you can trust. Earning and keeping this trust is important to us and so not only do we provide quality and compassionate care, we also make sure that our store and employees are certified and accredited.
